Following the heavy rainfall in some parts of the country this month, many cases of flooding have been reported. Notorious amongst these places include the lower Volta Basin flooding that occurred after the Volta Dam controlled spillage. While rescue efforts are ongoing to relocate the flood victims to a suitable place, tragedy has struck again affecting some parts of Greater Accra. Places like Pokuase, Amasaman, Kaneshie, Weija and some parts of Accra central experienced flooding on the major roads that led to heavy traffic jams.
The perennial flooding issue at Pokuase Barrier is an interesting one as reports on 11th July 2023 by some major news outlets including Joyonline and Ghana News Agency suggested that work had been undertaken to stop the flood. Residents and traders at the Ofankor barrier roundabout in the Ga-North Municipal Assembly heaped praises on the MCE, Mr. Simons Sekyim stating that his problem solving skills have brought an end to the persistent flooding issues.
The situation at the Pokuase area was so bad that commuters had to wait in traffic for long hours before they could move a few meters. Our reporters on site had to make use of a diversion that connected the Nsawam main road to the Pokuase township.
Below are videos that show the current state of the Pokuase-Nsawam road.
