In a rather unusual interview with Okay FM 101.7, Mr. Alex Tetteh, President of Citizen Eye Ghana has heaped praises on Hon. Julius Debrah, the current Chief of Staff in the Mahama administration, for his steadfast loyalty to President John Dramani Mahama and his quiet yet strategic role in stabilizing the Ghanaian economy, particularly the recent appreciation of the cedi.
Mr. Tetteh highlighted the ongoing economic turnaround under the Mahama-led team and gave special plaudits to Debrah for his measured leadership and operational discipline, which he argued has played a key role in restoring investor confidence and strengthening the currency.
“While others branded themselves as economic whiz kids and delivered catastrophic currency depreciation, Julius Debrah has focused on results, not words,” Mr. Tetteh said, clearly referring to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who chaired the Economic Management Team for eight years under the New Patriotic Party (NPP). “Bawumia watched idly as the cedi plummeted to historic lows. The evidence of failure is public record, and he clearly has no shame to be contesting for presidency again.”
According to Mr. Alex, Ghana has no use for theoretical economists whose legacies are marked by economic pain and currency collapse. Instead, he said, the country should elevate leaders like Julius Debrah, whose loyalty, competence, and steady leadership continue to bear fruit in Mahama’s current administration.
Mr. Alex Tetteh also spoke of Julius Debrah’s deep political grooming under three heads of state: Jerry John Rawlings, John Evans Atta Mills, and John Mahama, describing it as unmatched preparation for national leadership. “He’s been in the engine room of governance, learning from the very best this country has produced. His experience is not just book knowledge; it is governance in practice,” he remarked.
He also recounted Debrah’s impactful tenure as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, where he advanced decentralization and rural development policies that empowered local assemblies and brought government closer to the people. “That ministry shaped Julius Debrah into a servant of the grassroots. His understanding of governance is deeply connected to the grassroots as he has helped a lot of people with his position. He touted him as easily the best chief of staff in the past 16 years.
Sharing his views on NPP’s upcoming internal elections, Mr. Alex Tetteh issued a strong caution. “The NPP must not make the mistake of undermining the will of their grassroots. Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is the people’s choice. Any rigging or manipulations will destabilize the party, and another loss will be inevitable.”
He further warned that if the NPP leadership fails to ensure a fair process, the woes of the 2024 election will be irrelevant when compared to what will happen in 2028. We the members of NPP will have no hesitation in defecting to the NDC to support Julius Debrah should he emerge as a presidential candidate. “We will not stand by and watch injustice destroy the democratic fabric of the party. If the NPP cannot uphold fairness, we will rally behind a credible and experienced alternative like Julius Debrah.”
Commenting on the viral video of Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi and Agradaa, Mr. Alex Tetteh, applauded Julius Debrah for inviting the lawyer Sammy Gyamfi for questioning, citing this move as a testament to Julius Debrah’s commitment to accountability and professionalism in public service. He however shared that Sammy Gyamfi did not break any laws, and must not be sanctioned for his incident with Agradaa.
