The President of Citizen Eye Ghana, Mr. Alex Kwaku Tetteh, has called for the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to host a nationwide presidential debate between all qualified presidential candidates ahead of Ghana’s 2024 general elections. Mr. Tetteh emphasized the importance of such a debate in allowing Ghanaian voters to make informed decisions at the polls. Call on the Institute of Economic Affairs
He noted that presidential debates have become a hallmark of Ghana’s democracy, providing a platform for candidates to articulate their visions and address key issues facing the country. The President particularly expressed confidence that the IEA, which has successfully organized such debates in the past, would be the ideal institution to facilitate this process.
The IEA has a proven track record of hosting credible and impartial presidential debates. We call on them to once again take the lead in organizing a nationwide debate that will allow all qualified candidates to engage directly with the Ghanaian electorate,” the Citizen Eye Ghana President said.
The Citizen Eye Ghana President stressed that a nationwide presidential debate would enhance transparency, foster healthy competition, and ultimately strengthen Ghana’s democratic institutions. He expressed hope that all political parties and candidates would embrace the opportunity to participate in the debate and engage directly with the Ghanaian people.
The call for a presidential debate comes particularly amidst growing public interest in the 2024 elections. Markedly, several potential candidates have already expressed their intentions to run. The Citizen Eye Ghana President concluded by stating that a nationwide presidential debate would be a crucial step in ensuring that the 2024 elections are free, fair, and reflective of the will of the Ghanaian people. He stated that the fruits of such debates can be evidently seen in jurisdictions such as the recent debate between president Biden and Donald Trump in the USA.
Mr. Tetteh expressed his love for the country and stated emphatically that his role as the President of Citizen Eye Ghana was not just to criticize the government but also to acknowledge its successes where due.
