Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Chef Smith, has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. He announced his achievement during a press conference held at the La Palm Beach Hotel on July 2, 2024.
Chef Smith’s Remarkable Feat
The record breaker embarked on his cook-a-thon journey on February 1, 2024. He cooked for an 820 hours, concluding his marathon on March 6, 2024. However, his initial target was 1,200 hours.
The inscription on his record certificate read: “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”
Chef Smith’s Humble Gratitude
Chef Smith expressed his gratitude and humility, stating, “I am deeply humbled and honored to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon.”
Overcoming Challenges
Chef Smith made the attempt after another Ghanaian chef, Failatu, who eventually failed. Chef Smith had not received much support from Ghanaians for his attempt due to several factors. Unlike Chef Failatu and others who attempted various records, the buzz around his attempt was not much.

However, those who followed Chef Smith were convinced that he may emerge victorious. This was due to their belief in his dedication and passion for cooking. As Chef Smith stated, “I want to thank the wonderful community for believing in the power of hard work and perseverance.”

This achievement not only highlights Chef Smith’s culinary skills but also places Ghana prominently on the global stage. For such unique and challenging accomplishment, it showcases the willpower of Ghanaians to achieve greatness. In the quest to set Guinness World Records and bring recognition to Ghana, others such as Afua Asantewaa and Chef Failatu also made attempts, albeit unsuccessful.
