Professor Enoch Opoku Antwi, a Governance and Leadership Expert, has urged former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, to publicly disclose the source of her wealth to address speculations about its origin. Professor Antwi believes that such transparency would put an end to the ongoing discussions and accusations surrounding the large sums of money found at Dapaah’s residence.
The call comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) confirmed discovering $590,000 and GH¢2.73 million at Cecilia Dapaah’s residence in Abelemkpe, Accra, following a search conducted by OSP officers. The OSP initiated the search in accordance with legal procedures after reports emerged suggesting the presence of hidden money in Dapaah’s home.
In a writ filed at an Accra High Court, the OSP indicated that the money was seized on reasonable suspicion of being tainted property, and a freezing order was issued against Dapaah’s bank accounts and investments. The case is scheduled to be heard on August 17.
The call for transparency in wealth source highlights the importance of ethical conduct, accountability, and transparency among public figures, especially in cases involving allegations of corruption or financial misconduct. Public officials are often held to higher standards of integrity and are expected to address concerns related to their financial affairs in order to maintain public trust.
