IGP bribes me GH₵ 10,000 every month, Akuffo Addo cannot find out

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, finds himself embroiled in a heated controversy following the emergence of another leaked video on Thursday, September 7, 2023. The video, lasting 3 minutes and 14 seconds, has ignited a firestorm of debate and speculation throughout the nation.

The leaked video features the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, engaged in a conversation with unidentified individuals discussing what they claim to be a dubious deal involving the head of the Ghana Police Service.

In the video, Bugri Naabu can be heard detailing a contract purportedly offered by the police administration under the leadership of IGP Dampare. He further discloses that he, along with some unidentified associates, is seeking a share of the proceeds from this contract, although the exact amount remains undisclosed.

More alarmingly, Bugri Naabu reveals that he receives a monthly payment of GH¢10,000 from the police, with the expectation that this arrangement remains discreet and does not attract the attention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He expresses concerns that any exposure of these payments may undermine the President’s trust in him, especially considering that he had lobbied for Dampare’s appointment as the IGP.

This video revelation has triggered widespread outrage among Ghanaians, who are now clamoring for an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations made in the video. Across social media platforms, citizens have voiced their condemnation of the actions of both Bugri Naabu and the Inspector General of Police, demanding a comprehensive inquiry to restore public confidence in the police administration.

As of now, neither the Ghana Police Service nor the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has issued any public statements addressing the video’s contents or the allegations therein. Many, however, insist that it is imperative for the IGP to respond transparently to the accusations leveled against him.

The nation now eagerly anticipates the outcome of any potential police investigation, with the hope that it will shed light on the credibility of the allegations raised by Bugri Naabu in the leaked video. The incident has underscored the importance of accountability and transparency within the nation’s law enforcement agencies, and Ghanaians await further developments in this evolving situation.
